American Stock Dog Registries (ASDR) has announced that the Scottish Collie is now officially approved as a recognized breed with the American Stock Dog Registry… Effective January 2021, Scottish Collies will be double certified by the American Stock Dog Registry (ASDR). This means that two copies of your pet’s current CERF ID must be provided upon registration and that your pet may compete in American Kennel Club (AKC) competitions beginning in 2021. We congratulate the American Kennel Club (AKC) on this important decision and look forward to many successful and happy years of CERF ownership for your pets. The future of CERF dogs in the United States looks strong!
The American Kennel Club (AKC) is one of the largest dog registries in the world, with millions of dogs listed in their database. Many people register their dogs with the AKC, not only to find matches for themselves but also to help raise money for future genetic diseases. The three generations of genetic health guarantees provided by the American Kennel Club (AKC), through their long standing breeding policies and high standards of grooming and health maintenance, ensure that all genetic stocks are healthy and temperamentally sound.
The three generations of the CERF breed standard are the CERF I, II and III. A CERF I is the “age-appropriate” purebred puppy or adult dog registered with an AKC breeder. CERF II is registered with AKC breed clubs and meets the breed standard requirements of breed standards committees. CERF III, however, is not a purebred dog and has not been proven in conformation to any breed standard whatsoever. Therefore, all CERF dogs are NOT purebred, even though they may have a CERF I or II registration.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) has been around since the inception of the United States stock game wagering industry. They maintain registries of registered dogs in order to establish and maintain quality standards for the breed in addition to standardization of equipment and shelter. All AKC registered dogs are subjected to rigorous health and temperament tests conducted by AKC breeders before being offered for sale. AKC registries also require proof that the dog has been taught proper dog obedience and behavioural management as well as medical and dental examinations. A CERF certification will assure that the dog has been behaviourally tested and meet minimum American Kennel Club standards.
If you are looking for a new American stock dog, you can do the research yourself and register your dog yourself. However, if you are not a professional breeder or trainer, it may be better for you to let a professional do the registration for you. When you find a CERF registered dog, you should immediately contact the American Kennel Club (AKC) to inquire about licensing. It is important to maintain a CERF certification on all dogs so that they may be registered in the future.
There are many differences between different breeds of dogs. It helps to know what to look for when purchasing a dog. You should be aware of the AKC breed standard as well as the specific needs of each breed. You may be surprised by the many differences in the needs of many breeds. Having a CERF certification on your dog will help you ensure that you are getting a healthy happy dog.
